The ongoing spell of intense rains across Meghalaya will continue this week.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Meghalaya over the next three days.
According to an IMD forecast, an east-west trough runs from north-west Uttar Pradesh to Assam across Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim at mean sea level.
“Moisture incursion is very likely to continue due to strong lower level Southerly/Southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to North East India during June 15-19. Under its influence, widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms/lightning/ heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely to continue over Meghalaya during June 15-19,” the IMD said.
Yesterday, Sohra received the heaviest rainfall. According to the IMD data, the weather station at RKM Sohra recorded 906.8 mm of rain. The weather station at Saitsohpen, Sohra recorded 811.6 mm of rain.
Mawsynram, another rainiest area, recorded 710.6 mm of rainfall.
The other areas where heavy rainfall was recorded are Mawkyrwat 297 mm, Khliehriat 246.8 mm, Jowai 166.4 mm, Shella 220 mm, Resubelpara 128.5 mm, Shillong 96.9 mm, Tikrikilla 121.2 mm, Nongstoiñ 128.0 mm, and Williamnagar 94.0 mm.
