The Mawmluh Cherra Cement Limited Employees Union (MCCLEU) has decided to suspend their agitation after the management assured to take up their demands in a week’s time with the government.
Union president, Shanlang Lyngdoh told reporters after an executive committee meeting said that the MCCL management has agreed to take up all the issues of the employees especially with regards to regular payment of salary.
The employees are demanding regular payment of salaries and arrears, implementation of VRS scheme and to resume normal functioning of the plant.
He said, as per verbal discussion during the meeting, the management had agreed to sit and have a detailed discussion with leaders of the union and all stakeholders before meeting the Chief Minister on June 20.
“As for now, we will call off the agitation and we will again take a decision whether to continue or not with our agitation after a meeting with the Chief Minister,” Lyngdoh said.
The bankrupt company, which the government is hoping to sell off, at least partially, has been unable to meet the wage expenses of its workers and has built up a backlog of pending salaries.
