People’s Democratic Party (PDF) president, Banteidor Lyngdoh has stated that his party have always spoken against illegal coal mining and transportation in the State and not a mere spectator.
“We have never remained silent on this issue and we will not allow anything illegal in the state of Meghalaya because this will lead to revenue loss to the state and people will suffer,” Lyngdoh, who is also the cabinet minister.
Stating that on many occasions he has openly spoken against the issue, he said that coal mining should go the legal way and “if there are illegal activities we are against it.”
When asked if the various allegations against the MDA government, of which his party is an ally, will impact the PDF performance in the 2023 assembly polls, Lyngdoh said that his party is doing well on whatever portfolio it has been entrusted with.
He stated that being part and parcel of the MDA alliance, the PDDF is there to serve the people and any wrongs would be discussed in the right platform.
Asked on media reports about Health Minister James PK Sangma’s name being linked to the illegal coal trade from Meghalaya to Bangladesh through Gasuapara Custom Station the PDF leader rests it to the chief minister and said, “Everybody has seen the news report and the government especially chief minister should take up the issue.”
