North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla has been in talks with the High Commissioner of Mauritius, Santi Bai Hanoomanjee, over how the central varsity and Indian Ocean island nation can collaborate in the education sphere.
Hanoomanjee reportedly expressed her full support and cooperation for collaboration between universities in Mauritius and NEHU.
Areas like climate change, hydrology, maritime studies, culture and tradition, language and literature, defence and security studies are some of the areas in which strong research and teaching collaboration can be envisaged.
As part of NEHU’s effort to internationalise its courses, the university has proposed student and faculty exchanges that can further strengthen existing links between India and Mauritius.
Shukla told the Mauritian High Commissioner that NEHU is prepared to kickstart joint collaborative ventures, beginning with a visit by Hanoomanjee, who expressed a desire to visit Meghalaya.
Both sides agreed on starting off with academic and research partnerships to bring together Meghalaya’s unique pool of indigenous knowledge systems and Mauritius’ technological advancements in areas like livelihood, farming, forestry and such other measures for a sustainable future.
