A proposal to set up a National Law College in the state will be discussed soon in cabinet, Law Minister James PK Sangma said.
Meghalaya is one of only six states not to have a National Law College (or University).
Currently, Meghalaya only has Shillong Law College, which is affiliated to North-Eastern Hills University (NEHU).
Acknowledging the need for a national institute of this kind, Sangma said that the proposal for a National Law College is already in the form of a cabinet memo and will come up in cabinet very soon. He also said that finding land for the institute “should not be a problem” as many proposals for this have been made.
