One person died and several others were left injured after a collision between a passenger car and a pickup truck on the Shillong Bypass today.
At around 4pm, an Alto 800 (ML 10 C 0596) struck a Mahindra Supro (ML 10 C 1643) at an area under Umiam Police Station, Ri-Bhoi.
One occupant of the pickup died on the spot. Two others were severely injured while two pedestrians were also caught up in the accident and received injuries. The driver of the Alto was also hurt.
According to sources, the Alto was speeding at the time of the accident, though police are still investigating the cause.
The injured were treated at Bhoirymbong Community Health Centre.
