Legislators are busy dishing out schemes than formulating real policy that can benefit the public, first-time MLA Eugeneson Lyngdoh has told Highland Post.
The ex-footballer has only been an MLA since November, after stepping into the shoes of his late father, SK Sunn, but has already made an impact in the Assembly and for his forthrightness when speaking on various issues.
On the state of his constituency, Lyngdoh said that Mawphlang has a dearth of proper roads. Roads are the backbone of development and critical to his rural seat but farmers and other residents are hamstrung by dirt roads, which become even more difficult to traverse during the rainy season.
“There are numerous villages in my constituency that are still dependent on kacha roads that pose a great problem, especially during the monsoon,” he told HP recently.
He said he is doing whatever he can to alleviate the problems but lamented that the legislators function more like contractors and are busy distributing schemes instead of making policy decisions to address major problems faced by the youth, especially unemployment.
