Veteran politician and former MLA and MDC, Sing Mulieh passed away today at his residence in Loompyrdi Iongpiah.
Mulieh was a two time MLA and was also a Member of the Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC). He was elected from Jowai Assembly Constituency for two terms, 1998 and 2003.
He was also elected as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) and held various positions in JHADC during his long tenure from 1978 to 1994.
His decision to relocate the Jowai Civil Hospital from Panaliar to Ialong is said to be the cause of his defeat in the 2008 elections.
Mulieh was planning a comeback in 2023 as a BJP candidate in the Jowai constituency.
Meanwhile, his mortal remain has been taken to his parental village in Ialong and his funeral will be held on Thursday.
Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh in his condolence message said, “Mulieh’s work helped open minds and brought people together, he truly was a leader of the people and he ignited their hearts.”
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also condoled the demise of Mulieh “I extend my sincere condolences to the family, loved ones & supporters of Former Minister, Shri Sing Mulieh on his passing. As a veteran statesman, Ma Sing played an active role in the development of the State & was deeply admired by the people. May he Rest In Peace” – he tweeted.
