Construction on a 100-bed hospital in Resubelpara has been at a halt since last year due to the non-release of funds by the state government, Rongrong MDC Rinaldo K Sangma said today.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Rinaldo said that the issue is of grave importance as Resubelpara only has a Community Health Centre to cater to the healthcare needs of the populace.
The CHC can only treat very minor problems, while others, such as serious accidents or childbirths have to be referred to Tura or Goalpara in Assam “due to the unavailability of optimum medical equipment and specialised medical personnel,” the letter said.
Construction on the hospital began in March 2019 but, since last year, the work has come to a standstill because “not a single penny” has been released to the contractor, the MDC added.
