The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is making inroads in Meghalaya and is building up its base with an eye for a strong showing in the 2023 state elections.
This was stated by the TMC member in charge of Meghalaya, Manas Ranjan Bhunia today.
Speaking to the media, Bhunia said that, with seven to eight months ahead, the basic objective is to build up the organisation while strengthening and reaching out to the people at the grassroots.
“State, district, booth and block – this network is our primary and basic objective and we are really grateful to leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma and former Speaker Charles Pyngrope and their entire team. We are moving, generating and getting enthusiastic workers. Our supreme leader Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are in touch with all of them,” he added.
Explaining the reason for his visit, Bhunia said that he wanted to see how to make the party more productive.
“Meghalaya represented by Dr Mukul and Charles and other leaders are very much acceptable to the common people of the state. They are known faces and known leadership and sincere leaders. We are hopeful state by state we will move and our target is to contest the 2023 general elections with a positive outlook. We will detect any shortcomings and work on them,” he stated.
Asked about the general notion that the TMC may be able to woo voters in Garo Hills but will not be as successful in Khasi-Jaintia Hills, Bhunia said that the party is discussing this issue.
Equal importance is being given to the two parts of the state and the TMC is growing in favour among the people of Khasi-Jaintia Hills because of the “failure” of the state government, which made people start thinking of alternatives.
The TMC “is a definite option for the Khasi region with tall leaders like Charles Pyngrope and the team,” Bhunia added while stating that the idea that the Trinamool is a Bengal party is nothing but lies spread by opponents.
