Former chief minister and speaker J. Dringwell Rymbai, was laid to rest with full state honours today.
People including leaders from various political parties turned up and paid their last respect to the veteran leader during the state funeral held at Mawlai Madan Heh.
The national anthem was played and gun salute was accorded to the late leader after which the body was taken to the Mawlai Phudmuri Presbyterian Church cemetery in Mawroh.
The dignitaries who spoke during the state funeral were Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Speaker Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Metbah Lyngdoh, MLA Jirang Constituency, Sosthenes Sohtun and representative of the family Norbert Pathaw.
Condolence message of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma was also read by the Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo.
Cabinet Ministers, James P.K. Sangma, Lahkmen Rymbui, Hamletson Dohling, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma, MLAs, MDCs, Additional Chief Secretary, D. P. Wahlang, senior government officials and family, friends and well wishers attended the funeral.
