The members of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) are disappointed that the state government has not been able to do what it promised and release their pending salaries.
In March, protesting MSSASA teachers met Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who promised them that their wages for December and January would be released as soon as the state receives the funds from the Centre.
According to the Union Ministry of Education, the Centre transferred Rs 44.64 crore to Meghalaya for the purpose of paying SSA salaries. The state government should thus, according to MSSASA, release the funds immediately to the State Implementation Society.
Secretary in the Education Department, Ambrose Ch Marak, reportedly confirmed that the Finance Department has received the money.
However, despite all this, the SSA teachers remain unpaid even 18 days after the funds were transferred.
