The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has stated that the State governments under Dr Mukul Sangma and now Conrad Sangma have violated guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK) by implementing it only in West Garo Hills district.
The PMJVK implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs seeks to provide better socio economic infrastructure facilities to the minority communities particularly in the field of education, health and skill development.
However, HITO at a press conference today said that the centrally sponsored scheme never reached other districts, except for West Garo Hills as per information received through RTI on October 21, 2021.
HITO president Donbok Dkhar said that under the scheme, the construction of the tribal research institute Rs 5.74 crore during 2018-2019 was also implemented only in West Garo Hills.
The organisation has set a three-day deadline for the government to clarify and questioned, “We would also like to ask our Khasi-Jaiñtia legislators whether they are blind and deaf to have ignored such developments being diverted only in Garo Hills.”
Dkhar further said that the organisation will also demand for a separate Khasi state to sort out unfairness and biases on various issues including the state reservation policy and others.
