Textiles Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh inaugurated the Muga Growing-cum-Handloom Production Centre at Saikarap Shella today as one of the Meghalaya@50 initiatives of the state government.
Also present were local MLA B Synrem, Commissioner and Secretary FR Kharkongor, other officials and weavers and embroiderers of Khneng.
A Khneng costume show showcasing the unique Shella costume with Khneng embroidery was showcased by weavers from Mustoh area. The dignitaries in their speeches emphasised that Muga and Khneng activity would be further encouraged through capacity building and marketing efforts in the newly inaugurated centre, which will cater to the Saikarap and Mustoh areas in particular and Shella region as a whole.
