Given the extreme traffic snarl in the city, the Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles has warned taxi drivers not to delay or hesitate to ferry school-going students so that they reach their destination on time.
Stating that the JAC leaders have received several complaints from parents who worry that their children do not reach school on time, especially with the board examinations in the offing, leader of the JAC, Wandonbok Jyrwa, said, “Any taxi drivers hesitating or delaying to ferry students wearing uniforms to their destinations will be dealt with sternly.”
He asked the public to take photographs of taxis that fail to comply with this directive and submit them to the JAC. Jyrwa also warned taxis not to insist that students reserve a whole taxi before accepting them.
Meanwhile, Jyrwa claimed that no-entry imposed at the Harijan colony at Them Iewmawlong is a main contributing factor in the extreme traffic jams in the entire city. The area was a centre of disturbance in 2018 and entry has been restricted ever since.
