Tura MDC Bernard Marak has accused the state government of falsifying information it provides to the Centre with regards to central government schemes in Meghalaya.
In a press release today, Marak, of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said that “initiatives taken by the Centre to reach out to the poor and need remain a farfetched dream due to the failure of the state mechanism which has failed to deliver the schemes to the [intended] beneficiaries.”
As an example, he said that actual farmers are deprived of scheme benefits and only those whose names have been approved by the “political workers of the ruling party” get approved.
Job card holders go without full payment of their wages, he added, because the state government does not release the funds it has already received from New Delhi.
The BJP’s initiative, Marak, a strident critic of the state government, to support the poor and weak has been turned into a “mere dream” and he cited the Jal Jeevan Mission to provide potable water to all households in the country as another example of misleading the Centre as the scheme “has failed to reach every household and connections of running water has turned into a joke in most villages. Approved pipes disappeared and were replaced by plastic pipes in many places.”
The Tura water supply scheme has also failed to supply running water to residents, the MDC claimed, who face much difficulty in getting sufficient water.
“The Chief Minister should deliver the schemes to the genuine beneficiaries instead of making media hype. If debated, CM will find himself in a very awkward position,” he concluded.
