SSA teachers in Garo Hills have threatened to shut down schools in March if the government does not release their five months pending salaries.
The teachers under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) in a statement today had reiterated their demand for salaries and said, “SSA teachers in Meghalaya are dying for food whereas those in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other states are getting their salaries without problems.”
Stating that the central government has already made timely sanction of funds they questioned the State government’s failure to release the salary.
“The State government always try to point finger at the centre for its failure to release the funds because they have misappropriated it,” association president LG Momin said.
He said if the government fails to fulfill their demands before March 1 they will be compelled to launch stronger agitations and shut down schools till they get paid.
