The South West Khasi Hills district magistrate has promulgated Section 144 CrPC prohibiting illegal mining activities and transportation of minor minerals in the district.
Individuals, parties, firms, groups involved in mining/quarrying of minor minerals are directed to comply with the order, which was passed in compliance to the High Court order.
The order was also to regulate mining activities in the district and directed that all persons having mining licenses should strictly adhere to the conditions of the licenses granted. “If any person is functioning without a license or in excess of the area or conditions specified in the licenses, the authority concerned should immediately take appropriate steps, including initiating criminal action against the person concern,” the order said.
