Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has informed that the State government plans to renovate about 450 schools in the State in the coming years.
Acknowledging that many government schools are in dilapidated condition, Sangma said that the government has in the last few years repaired about 500 schools at Rs. 200 crores.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a foundation stone laying ceremony in Bangranggre in West Garo Hills district today.
He also informed that the new construction of government colleges in Williamnagar, Baghmara and Sohra has already been started which is due for completion by year end and has also started nine community colleges across the State.
Sangma stated that the present government has been working with special emphasis on the education sector. Education is necessary to provide required knowledge and qualification to the youths of the region so that they are able to qualify themselves for various job opportunities and other undertaking and thereby uplift the society and reach greater heights in future, he added.
