There is no dearth of political talent in the Congress and better people will replace the 12 high profile MLAs who quit the party for the Trinamool Congress, Mylliem MDC Ronnie V Lyngdoh has told Highland Post.
“Why have they (the 12 deserters) left? Is it because they think about the people of the state? Suddenly they are saying that they are not happy with the party leadership but they cannot fool the people anymore and take them for a ride in this smart era,” he said.
Lyngdoh, who served in Dr Mukul Sangma’s cabinet up until 2018 when the Congress lost the state election (and Lyngdoh his seat in the Assembly), ridiculed the ex-Chief Minister and those who followed him into the TMC for finding fault with the Congress after belonging to the party for years.
Stating that it is high time that good and well-educated and capable people who will prioritise the youth and overall development of the state join politics, he said, “In time everyone will come to know that better and capable people have joined the state Congress in the entire Khasi-Jaintia Hills.”
Looking to rebuild its image, the Congress is aiming to create opportunities for such people so that policies are in place and the state becomes one of the most prosperous.
“Let us not focus on the deserters who have betrayed the trust and mandate of the people but let us concentrate on the good people who will join the party because politics should be for the betterment of the people and nothing else,” Lyngdoh said.
When asked about his own loyalty to the Congress Party, Lyngdoh maintained that he will not betray the mandate of the people and will continue to serve through the party that got him elected.
