Mylliem MDC, Ronnie V Lyngdoh has questioned the applicability of the Covid protocols in the State as there have been numerous instances of people in power flouting coronavirus-related restrictions creating confusion among the common man.
“The lawmakers are sometimes creating confusion because one thing they are saying is to strictly follow protocols but on the other hand they are the one breaking the rules and not following protocols,” he told Highland Post
Stating that if people are reluctant to take vaccines the government and authorities are partly to blame, he said, “When you enact a rule it should apply to everyone in a matured democracy be it the most humble or the mighty and powerful. If you are saying that the coronavirus is contagious and people are seeing political leaders roaming around without masks and convening meetings then it becomes a problem.”
He expressed concerned over rising number of Covid cases in the state and the changing narratives of the virus. “Looking at various reports and somewhere along the way I don’t know why this virus is now considered as mild whereas people are being hospitalized and dying,” adding, “A virus is a virus. How can someone come up with such a term that the virus is now mild?”
He called upon concerned departments and the government to be ready to face any challenges that may arise by intensify awareness programmes and sensitize people on their safety.
“If the experts are saying wear masks and keep distance then do that because curfew and lockdowns will not solve this problem,” he added.
