A PhD scholar at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Vivek Kumar, has been elected as the new vice-president of the Indian Polar Research Network, a national chapter of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) of Norway.
This was revealed by the NEHU’s Department of Environmental Studies through a press release today, which congratulated Kumar on his achievement.
Polar regions are the coldest regions on the earth, affecting the climate of the entire planet. In the present time of rapid climate and environmental changes, polar studies for the detection and identification of the drivers of climatic changes become increasingly important.
Kumar took charge today as VP in a virtual event organized by the Indian Polar Research Network.
APECS is an international and interdisciplinary organization comprising early career/doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, professionals, educators and others with interests in polar and alpine regions and the wider cryosphere.
Kumar is pursuing his PhD in the department under guidance of Prof Dibyendu Paul. Kumar is working on the transport, transformation and environmental fate of selected pollutants in aquatic environments. The department wished him all success in his new assignment and hoped that he will contribute to the polar cause in his new role.
