Two villages in Meghalaya have won the second and third positions of ‘Best Village Panchayat’ award in the North East Zone for exemplary work in the field of water resources management.
The first position of ‘Best Village Panchayat’ in the North East Zone was bagged by Sialsir village under Sirchip district of Mizoram.
The second position was won by Aminda Simsanggre village of West Garo Hills and the third position was won by Chambagre village of West Garo Hills.
To encourage and recognise individuals and organisations doing exemplary work in the field of water resources management, the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti is giving 57 awards to states, organisations, individuals etc in eleven different categories – Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best Media (Print & Electronic), Best School, Best Institution, Resident Welfare Association, religious organisation for campus usage, Best Industry, Best NGO, Best Water User Association, and Best Industry for CSR Activity.
Some of these categories have sub- categories for different zones of the country. The award winners in different categories will be given a citation, trophy and cash prize.
In the announcement made on January 8, in the Best State category, Uttar Pradesh has been awarded first prize, followed by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
The ‘Best Village Panchayat’ award in North Zone was won by Dhaspad village in Almora district of Uttarakhand. The second position was won by Jamola village in Rajouri district of Jammu & Kashmir while the third position was bagged by Balua village in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh.
The ‘Best Village Panchayat’ award in South Zone was bagged by Yelerampura Panchayat in Tumkur district of Karnataka. The second position was won by Vellat Puthur Panchayat in Chengalpattu district of Tamil Nadu and the third position was won by Elappully Grama Panchayat in Palakkad district of Kerala.
The ‘Best Village Panchayat’ in East Zone was won by Telari Panchayat in Gaya district of Bihar. The second position was won by Chhindiya Panchayat in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh and the third position was bagged by Guni Panchayat in Khunti district of Jharkhand.
The ‘Best Village Panchayat’ in West Zone was won by Takhatgadh village in Sabarkantha district of Gujarat. The second position was won by Kankapar village in Kachchh district of Gujarat. The third position was secured by Surdi village in Solapur district of Maharashtra.
