East Khasi Hills district police has cautioned the public against gift card frauds.
Superintendent of Police (City), Vivek Syiem in a statement today said numerous complaints were received by the police about scammers who pose as government officials asking people to purchase Amazon gift cards.
“Imposters /fraudsters posing as Heads of Department/Senior Government officials/Head of Government etc. are sending messages through WhatsApp to various people and asking them to purchase Amazon gift cards of Rs. 10,000 and to email the gift card to an email address indiaheartfoundation@gmail.com,” he said, adding, “Public are advised not to respond to such messages and to inform the nearest Police Station/Out Post/ Beat House immediately if they receive such a message.”
