Irked by the state government’s failure to pay them their pending salaries, SSA teachers under the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) today launched a letter writing campaign that will continue until January 14.
“We have launched a letter campaign from today where our SSA teachers will keep sending letters of grievances to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui till January 14, followed by a sit-in demonstration and candlelight protest if the letter campaign fails to produce a result,” the teachers said.
Informing that, as part of the protest by the SSA teachers, a non-cooperation movement was also launched since yesterday, leader of MSSASA, Aristotle Rymbai said, “Our condition has gone from bad to worse. We are struggling to pay our house rent, our children’s school fees are due and even their results are withheld because of the non-payment of the school fees and the SSA teachers are on the brink of starvation.”
He added, “Why is the government not following the provisions of RTE (Right to Education) Act? Why is it not obeying the direction of the central government that it is the duty of the state government to manage from its own resources if there is delay in releasing the funds from the Centre?”
