The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) organised a seminar on ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresources’ with special reference to the North East today in Upper Shillong.
IBSD is organising a series of such programmes to promote local bioresources of the region under the leadership of IBSD director, Prof Pulok K Mukherjee.
On this occasion, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between IBSD and North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in the presence of Prof SR Joshi, head of the Department of Biotechnology, for collaborative research work and human resource development.
The seminar was addressed by AA Mao, director of the Botanical Survey of India. Mao highlighted various bioresources, including orchids, medicinal plants and mushrooms in Meghalaya for the development of women bio-entrepreneurs and boosting the economy of the region.
The programme was organised as a part of the project of BIRAC, Department of Biotechnology, government of India, jointly by IBSD and the Bio Resources Development Centre (BRDC) of the government of Meghalaya.
