Chairperson of the Meghalaya Assembly’s committee on empowerment of women, Ampareen Lyngdoh, has expressed happiness for the constitution of the new body of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).
Stating that crime against women and other related problems persists in the state, she said, “The committee on empowerment of women is looking forward to meeting with the MSCW body at the earliest.”
Social activist from Jowai, Phidalia Toi, was appointed as the chairperson of the MSWC recently. Her appointment came a year and two months after the post fell vacant.
The MSCW has been functioning without the chairperson and other members since October last year.
The absence of the chairperson and other members of the commission for the last one year has crippled the work of the commission besides affecting women in need of help and assistance.
