A free animal health camp cum input distribution programme was today organised by the ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri-Bhoi in Khweng village.
The programme was organised in collaboration with the Division of Animal and Fisheries Science, ICAR as part of the integrated farming system model village development programme under the Schedule Tribe component with an objective to increase income, food and nutritional security of farmers.
About 60 farmers from the village attended the programme during which 750 numbers of four weeks old Kuroiler breed poultry chicks along with 800kg of mineral mixture feed, fove honey bee boxes, 60 mini-vegetable seed kits and 2000 vegetables seedlings were distributed.
Director of the institute, Dr VK Mishra in his speech elaborate on the vision and aim of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for doubling income and livelihood of the poorest of the poor rural farmers through adoption of sustainable agricultural technologies and integrated farming approach.
Dr. KK Baruah, Principal Scientist and Head Division of Animal and Fisheries Science stressed on vaccination of all animal which is the integral part of integrated farming system.
Dr S Hazarika, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer Tribal Sub Plan (ST Component) ICAR Umiam, gave a brief introduction of TSP project being implemented by all ICAR Institute through KVKs in the entire North-Eastern Region.
Dr. Arnab Sen, Principal Scientist explained on use of animal for the component of natural farming and soil health improvement for better crop production.
Headman Khweng village, Plaster Jalong, Dr. Mokidul Islam, Principal Scientist & Head KVK, Ri Bhoi, Dr Samir Das and Bankitkupar Mukhim (SMS-Fishery Science), Dr AAP Milton, Scientist (AH) and Dr Sandeep Ghatak, Principal Scientist (Animal Health), Dr. Samir Das, Scientist (VPH) were present at the programme.
A field visit to identify suitable integrated farming system model was also conducted.
