Social activist from Jowai, Phidalia Toi has been appointed as the chairperson of Meghalaya State Women’s Commission.
The appointment of the new chairperson of MSCW came after a year and two months since the post fell vacant.
MSCW has been functioning without the chairperson and other members since October last year.
The absence of the chairperson and other members of the commission for the last one year has crippled the work of the commission besides affecting women in need of help and assistance.
Born and raised in Jowai, Toi is Masters Degree in Khasi Language Literature from North Eastern Hills University Shillong. She is a songwriter, composer and also a filmmaker.
She has written books in fiction and non-fiction genre titled, The Dawn: Marathon Race of Acche Din, which focuses on the governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the pre and post-analysis of the 2014 general elections in India.
According to the notification, the new members of the women’s commission included social worker Felicita L. Majaw, former Director of Soil and Water Conservation Semalotha Ch Sangma, social worker Candida Kharsyntiew, former JHADC MDC from Khliehriat Violet Lyngdoh, former head of Garo department in Don Bosco College, Tura Susan M. Sangma, and former Assistant Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Linda J. Sangma.
