The Department of Sociology at Sankardev College, Shillong, organised a two-day national webinar on ‘Gender and Society in Contemporary India: Issues and Prospects’, sponsored by ICSSR-NERC on December 9-10.
Professor Maitrayee Chaudhuri, former professor of the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, JNU, New Delhi, delivered the online keynote address.
The webinar saw participation from different parts of the country as well as eminent resource persons and chairpersons, including NEHU associate professor Rekha Shangpliang, sociologist Vijayalakshmi Brara, Pondicherry University assistant professor Aashita, JNU retired professor Tiplut Nongbri, NEHU history professor AN Passah, NEHU anthropology professor Lucy TV Zehol, NEHU history professor CA Mawlong, and University of Hyderabad professor Ajailiu Niumai.
Scholars and academicians from the state and different parts of India presented diverse papers on issues centering on the theme.
