BJP MLA, Sanbor Shullai has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to air his objection against the survey being conducted on the Christian community in Karnataka stating it was unconstitutional.
A Karnataka Legislative Committee on Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare had issued instructions to district authorities to conduct a survey of churches and the functioning of Christian missionaries which has sparked protest.
“Such survey of people with regards to religion is unconstitutional and doesn’t justify the religious freedom of faith. Any person who believes in any religion is by virtue of their birth or due to a belief or faith they tender upon any religion they feel compatible with,” Shullai wrote.
Seeking the Prime Minister’s attention to the issue, Shullai urged him to ensure the safety and security of the Christian community in Karnataka and every state in the country.
“Any individual who are taking law into their hands by taking advantage of the situation here by imposing distrust among the minority Christian Community in state of Karnataka is highly objectionable. Since India has global secular image such acts are definitely going to dent our image,” Shullai said.
