In an interesting political play, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today chose to go soft on the eleven Congress MLAs who left the party and joined Trinamool Congress.
Speaking to media persons, Sangma did not criticise the action of the former Congress legislators but said that NPP was committed to honour the commitment it gave to the coalition partners in the MDA government.
“The way I see it is that every situation is different so one cannot take things for granted and one has to ensure that to monitor the situation as minutely as possible. We are with our coalition partners and we are very happy, very committed to the coalition partners. We have been through a lot of difficulties and challenges but we are very committed to the coalition,” Sangma said.
“In coalitions there will always be concerns and issues that’ll come out. Everybody has their own personal agendas also, so we try to address those agendas but as of now there is no issue.” he added.
On the entry of Trinamool Congress in Meghalaya, Sangma said that NPP would strengthen itself more.
“2023 is far away. One cannot say what is going to happen. Whatever other political parties do, let them do, that is their prerogative but we as a party will not take anything easy. We will continue working hard, continue to organise the party and inform and engage with the people about the development work and the social work that we have done at the grassroots level,” he added.
On the situation in the Congress party, Sangma said, “State by state Congress is losing and becoming insignificant in various parts of the country. Even in the upcoming Manipur elections they will not be able to do as well as they had in the past.”
