The 49 years of Meghalaya statehood has nothing much to boast off when education, a very crucial sector, is being neglected and the rural education infrastructure is in a sorry state of affairs.
It is sad that teachers who are ‘Gurus’ have to force themselves onto the streets and raise their voices for their basic fundamental rights. What example is the State government trying to set in the eyes of the entire country is simply outrageous and it is important that proper heed should be addressed if the state wants to excel in all spheres?
Except from Shillong based-schools and institutions, we do not have model institutions in prominent rural towns to talk off except for a few private ones and neither do we have a skill-based curriculum to empower that would help build the capacity of the future generations in a changing economic and industrial scenario through skill along with primary experience in a demanding industry.
Therefore if we want the youths to excel the State education system should be more practical rather than theoretical in its approach.
