Five members of a gang allegedly involved in highway robbery were arrested by East Jaiñtia Hills district police from Deinchynrum village.
District superintendent of police, Jagpal Singh Danoa said in a statement today that the gang of robbers hailing from Rymbai Pompyrthad, Rymbai Pohshnong and Rymbai Pohskur, had waylaid and boarded a bolero pickup truck, which was on its way from Lumshnong to Khliehriat, and kidnapped the driver.
The five persons were arrested yesterday after police set up checking on NH-06 after information of the crime was received. The victim was rescued and the maruti zen (AS 01 N 3251) and an air pistol used to commit the crime was seized, the SP said.
The arrested persons have been identified as Fairwancy Thoo (22), Daniel Bareh (19), Eden Thoo (23), Glory Rymbai (19) and Melamon Tlang (19).
A case has been registered at Khliehriat police station and investigation is underway.
