The District Election Officer, West Garo Hills has warned against offering bribes by candidates or their agents during the campaign for the upcoming Assembly by-election in Rajabala constituency.
“In case anybody offers any bribe or is having knowledge about the bribe or cases of threat or intimidation of electors, then he or she should inform at the toll free number 222000 of the 24×7 Complaint Monitoring Cell of the district set up for receiving the complaints,” the District Election Officer said today.
He also said that any person giving or accepting any gratification in cash or kind during the election process, with a view to inducing the person to exercise his electoral right, will be punished with imprisonment up to one year or with fine or both.
Further, the District Election Officer has banned carrying of cash amounting to Rs 50,000 or more in the constituency during the electioneering exercise.
He said that without proper explanation on the source and end use, the cash shall be liable to be seized by the Flying Squad or Static Surveillance Teams deployed for Election Expenditure Monitoring in the district.
The documents consisting of PAN Card, Business Registration Certificate, evidence for the end use of the cash, like marriage invitation, hospital admission, etc must be produced to show the source and end use of such cash in order to avoid seizure.
