In a boost to the Congress party, former legislator of the party, Sayeedullah Nongrum today returned to the party which he had quit a few years ago.
Nongrum had represented Rajabala constituency and was a cabinet minister.
He was welcomed back into the party fold by general secretary of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Deborah C. Marak at the Congress Bhavan here.
Speaking to media persons, Nongrum said, “I belong to the Congress. But due to certain reasons due to which I was upset I left (the party).”
He however declined to point out the reasons for leaving the Congress.
Nongrum added that on the call of the present MPCC chief Vincent Pala he decided to come back to the party.
The former legislator said that Pala had helped him a lot personally, like in construction of the Umshyrpi College, which he cannot forget.
Meanwhile, Marak said that the party was happy that those who have left the Congress are coming back.
“We want them. Nongrum is a senior member of the party. He is a dedicated worker of the party,” she said.
The MPCC general secretary also said that the party’s door is always open for whoever wants to come back.
She said that with their homecoming the Congress will be further strengthened.
