Altogether 172 casual labourers of temporary status (CLTS) were appointed as skilled support staff in the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.
Of them 83 are from Meghalaya (4 in KVK Tura and 79 in Umiam), 31 from Tripura, 12 Sikkim, 13 Arunachal Pradesh, 14 Manipur, 15 Nagaland and four from Mizoram.
An appointment letter distribution function was held for the appointees today at the M. S. Swaminathan Hall of the ICAR.
The newly appointed staff will now be eligible for the benefits of pension, gratuity, GPF on par with regular Central government servants.
Speaking on the occasion, ICAR NEH Director Dr. V.K. Mishra said that this is a recognition of hard work put forward by these Temporary Status Employees (TSM), which has been done on the basis of number of service they have rendered to the institute.
He further added that this initiative will help in the social and economic upliftment of the employees. He urged upon these employees to work hard with a renewed zeal for betterment of the institute.
A statement from the ICAR said that it was a long pending demand of the CLTS, many of whom are working on daily wages since early 80s, to appoint them as Skilled Support Staffs. But it was not possible before as there were not enough sanctioned posts of Skilled Support Staffs in the institute and many casual labourers were granted the temporary status from September, 1993 making them eligible for benefit of provident fund.
The appointment was made possible after the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi sanctioned additional 184 posts of skilled support staffs.
