The Assembly’s Committee on Empowerment of Women, has summoned officials as part of its investigation into various heinous crimes committed against women and children in the state of late.
Depositions will be given by these officials on September 21.
Chairperson of Committee on Empowerment of Women, Ampareen Lyngdoh told this reporter that the committee has called for deposition of the SP of Nongstoin on the dual murder case in Nongstoin, deposition on the heinous crime of gang rape of three minor girls at Ummir Village, the tragic death of a woman in Dangar Primary Health Centre including to summon the Nongalbibra gang rape case where a minor was denied treatment, besides other.
“We have summoned the various officials and would like a deposition before the committee to seek clarity on the detail of all these cases of crimes against women and children,” Lyngdoh said.
With regards to the vacancy at the head of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women, which has been pending since October last year, Lyngdoh said that the commission is crippled without a chairperson and her committee has spoken to the state government on this several times. The matter has also been discussed in the Assembly as well.
“We don’t know what had happened to the many names that apparently the search committee had suggested. Most of the domestic violence cases remain undecided for almost a year now in the absence of the chairperson,” she said.
