The Congress today stated that the MDA government would effect a reshuffling in its cabinet and would allot the tourism portfolio to James Sangma to further “loot” the state.
“The tourism portfolio is going to be given to James K Sangma provided the Power department is taken away from him to accomplish their mission, that is, to loot and benefit only a few,” Congress spokesperson Zenith Sangma said.
Zenith alleged that under James as the Power Minister, the MeECL had engaged one company called NITCON, a government PSU – for monetization of the assets of the MeECL across the state including the land.
According to him, this move was also protested by one of the directors of MeECL. “The independent director resigned from the boards of directors on this,” he said.
Zenith also stated that the government is allegedly planning to lease out the assets particularly the land of MeECL in different locations in Shillong, Umiam, Sumer, Byrnihat, Tura etc to private operators to develop malls, hotels, casino games with the pretext to enhance tourism industry in the state, that too, at the cost of the interest of the people of the state.
“Therefore, this policy is not acceptable and the Chief Minister should stop indulging in corruption for the sake of the people and the state,” the Congress spokesperson said.
