The reduction in new Covid-19 cases has prompted the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to scrap the odd-even system for vehicles in the district from tomorrow.
WGH has just 135 active coronavirus cases with only three new ones recorded today. Fifty-seven percent of the target population in the district has also received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine.
In an order today, the DC, Ram Singh, said, “Based on the present situation in the district, the regulation of private and public transport on odd-even basis will be discontinued starting August 27.”
The display of vaccination status of the driver of public transport vehicles, including maxi cabs and autos, will still be required, however.
Other districts in Garo Hills have also shown marked improvement in Covid numbers, which has already led to the weekend lockdowns being curtailed to only Sunday. In terms of numbers, East Garo Hills saw six new cases while North Garo Hills had two and South West Garo Hills three new corona cases. South Garo Hills saw no new infections today.
Garo Hills has begun to see the gradual opening up, with most districts allowing business to carry on until 5 pm, while some districts have given permission for a further hour.
Business opening hours are likely to be extended further in the coming days.
Districts have been pushing to get everyone eligible for vaccination to get their dose in an effort to ease the burden on the healthcare system.
