Family members of ex-HNLC leader, Cherishterfield Thangkhiew today said they will wait for the report of the judicial enquiry set up by the State government and expect it to be fair.
“We have seen that the government has decided to set up a Judicial Enquiry and we are waiting for the outcome of the report because we want a fair probe. As a family we will fight to get justice,” Granarysterfield Thangkhiew, the younger brother of the former militant leader said.
The kin of the ex-HNLC leader also informed that the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) will be sitting on September 10 to take up the case.
While on August 18 the family had filed an FIR demanding action against police officials who were involved in the death of the former rebel, Granarysterfield said that as a family it has nothing to do with the demand to suspend the police officers who were involved in the raid.
It may be mentioned that a group – Ka Sur ki Nong Mawlai – demanding justice for Thangkhiew had insisted on the suspension of the police officers who were involved in the raid.
“They are doing their part, but we have nothing to do with their demand, nor we would like to comment,” the younger brother said.
The family further urged people to play a part in restoring normalcy and bring peace back. “In all this, the poor suffer. As of now Mawlai is tensed, we want this to end,” he said.
