The State Mahila Congress today questioned the logic of the MDA government in appointing a retired judge to head the judicial inquiry into the death of the ex-HNLC leader, which according to it, should actually have a serving judge to examine and conduct an investigation.
“By way of asking the Meghalaya State Human Rights Commission to conduct an inquiry on the case is like admitting that this government has acknowledged its role of human rights violation when the commission had taken a suo motu notice on the incident,” Mahila Congress president Joplin Scott Shylla said.
Stating that it was illogical she said that the State government should appoint an independent commission by a serving judge.
The Mahila Congress has also demanded the removal of Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui stating that he has failed and abdicated responsibility in owning up the botched-up operation carried by the state police leading to the unfortunate death of the ex-HNLC leader on August 13.
“If the MDA coalition government was serious in this matter it should have suspended the police personals involved in the entire episode of the raid till a full-fledged enquiry is completed to know the truth, however it seems the CM is trying to brush things under the carpet on the incident and his Home Minister seems to have been misled or not taken into confidence,” Shylla said.
Shylla also slammed the regional parties in the MDA coalition stating, “They think that they can keep fooling people with their hypocrisy, while trying to shield their silence rather it is astonishing that none of them have put up a statement on the matter which shows their true colours and their “love” towards the Jaidbynriew.”
Asking the Conrad Sangma led government to take a serious look at the deficiency in governance, Shylla said that the government has its Constitutional duty to protect the life, and limb of every citizen of the state which this government has abdicated its duty and responsibility.
