Former Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong said that he was shocked by the attitude of the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, during his recent visit to the state.
“The worst part is that Amit Shah, who does not have the decency to speak on ILP (Inner Line Permit), which is a burning issue for the people of Meghalaya, instead announced that by 2024 the North East will have railway connections,” Lanong told Highland Post.
He admitted, though, that he was not privy to what was spoken between Shah and the government’s representatives during the visit but he hopes that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma sent a strong message to the central government on the ILP.
Sangma had maintained that Shah gave a very patient hearing to the cabinet ministers, not only on ILP, but also on issues like inclusion of the Khasi Language in the Eighth Schedule and border disputes. Shah, according to the CM, said that the Centre is examining the ILP matter.
