The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills has reiterated the urgent need for members of the public to be vaccinated against Covid-19, pointing to the latest figures of new infections in the district.
Today saw 330 new cases of Covid in East Khasi Hills, of which 256 (77.57 percent) had not received the jab. This figure was further divided between those in rural (109) and urban areas (147).
Another 62 (18.79 percent) had received one dose of the vaccine and just 12 (3.64 percent) double-dose individuals caught the virus.
“While vaccinated persons can still get infected, the data strongly indicates that vaccination greatly reduces the likelihood of getting infected with the virus. Fully vaccinated persons have a much lower chance of getting infected. Vaccination also significantly reduces chances of severe symptoms, hospitalization and death,” the DC, Isawanda Laloo, said.
