The Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has sent a letter to the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressing its unhappiness regarding the nature of the ‘independent’ probe that will look into the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd and allegations of impropriety in the implementation of the Saubhagya scheme.
The HYC has also demanded the removal of James Sangma as the Power Minister and the removal of Arun Kembhavi from the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL).
The HYC said that they have demanded a CBI inquiry because the inquiry committee instituted by the government does not have the power to complain to the court if misused and corruption are found in the said scheme.
Stating that the government may not even make public the findings of the Inquiry committee, HYC leader Roykupar Synrem said, “Do you think that if the committee detects that James Sangma, who is a minister and the brother of the CM, is involved in a corrupt act involving more than Rs 149 core, the government will ask to arrest him?”
Stating that going by the interim Comptroller and Auditor General report, which was leaked to the press, it seems like the whole cabinet of ministers is involved in the misuse of the Saubhagya scheme and it would therefore be impossible for the ministers to judge themselves.
