Ahead of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah’s visit to the State, expectations from the NGOs are high especially on talks related to issues concerning Meghalaya particularly the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO), one of the many groups here laid its expectations of issues that need thorough discussion during Shah’s visit on July 17.
In a statement today, the organisation said that the inter-state border, ILP, CAA, Them Metor impasse and sinking economy are issues that the Union Minister needs to give an ear to.
HITO president Donbok Dkhar also said, “We are indeed very happy that such a high dignitary will set foot on the soil of our very own legendary martyr U Tirot Sing Syiem on his 186th Death Anniversary and hopes that Shah will accord sanctity and honour the martyr by laying a wreath in his memory.”
Dkhar said that the MDA government should facilitate this and added that by doing so it will pave the way to a fruitful and meaningful discussion between the Centre and State in letter and spirit.
Meanwhile, HITO also informed that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM, Titosstar Well Chyne has welcomed their suggestion to omit the word ‘Land Holding’ to ‘Land Ownership’ certificate in land documents.
Dkhar said that the CEM assured that when the district council passes the Land Bill its suggestion will be taken into consideration.
According to HITO, if the term ‘land holding’ continues to be used in land documents there would be a conflict between various other central laws and the customary practices of the State.
