Assembly Speaker and United Democratic Party (UDP) president, Metbah Lyngdoh, said that any decision to resolve the border dispute with Assam has to take all stakeholders into confidence.
Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had asserted that all conflicts with neighbouring states could be resolved through a “give-and-take” approach.
The Speaker said that many attempts have been made in the past by previous Chief Ministers but there has been no solution, which has puzzled him.
“That’s why I say that everybody has to be taken on board,” Lyngdoh added. “Let’s not play politics anymore. This is the real issue of the state. We have to put all sincere efforts to see the light of the day as far as the border issue is concerned.”
Lyngdoh also informed that during his meeting with Sarma yesterday, he had discussed the long-pending border issue with him.
“I did express my serious concern about the issues that have come up from time to time and about those people living on the border. He (Sarma) expressed his concern about the issue and assured that it will be taken up at a fast pace to see that people from both states are happy to sort out the pending issues,” Lyngdoh added.
