The Trained Psychotherapeutic Professionals of Meghalaya (TPPM) has yet to receive responses on the question of workers’ rights in the state that was sent to the Labour Department more than one month ago.
TPPM had sent a detailed questionnaire on the subject of rights and the procedure to ensure their enforcement to Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also in charge of the Labour Department.
“We had hoped that as public offices they would respond to queries sent by the public on important information that concerns the public but it seems that until and unless one uses the force of law and approaches the government via confrontational methods, information sought will not be answered,” TPPM said in a release today. “The letter and questionnaire were sent, not to belittle anyone but to give us the information that can help all frontline workers as the information that people have right now on workers’ rights are very vague and do not suggest any steps for help or grievance redressal.”
However, it is unclear whether the department is duty-bound to respond if the inquiries were not put forward in the form of a Right to Information (RTI) request.
