The All Meghalaya Minorities Students’ Union (AMMSU) has written to the deputy commissioner of WGH over the poor network connectivity of all service providers, including Jio, Airtel and Vodafone – Idea in the plains belt areas of the district.
The NGO mentioned Tikrikilla, Jugirjhar, Bhangarpar, Pathorkata, Moulakandi, Charbatapara, Chibinang, Phulbari, New Bhaitbari and Rajabala where poor network has dogged the people.
The organization opined that since the start of the pandemic, almost all official works were now taking place through the online process and good network connectivity has become essential in nature.
“Even the student community is totally dependent upon network service as the classes have been taking place online, even examinations,” said assistant general secretary, Ariqul Hoque Azad.
They complained that despite the need for connectivity, the reality is that the above-mentioned networks are providing very poor service.
Hoque mentioned a social media post by the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills on May 11, which mentioned that Jio was setting up four towers in Tikrikilla Bazaar stretch.
“Instead of improvement in the network service, it is getting poorer day by day. As a result, people, especially the student community, are unable to do work through online processes. The situation is similar in all the above-mentioned areas,” he added.
