Former Chief Minister and current Chief Adviser to the Meghalaya government, DD Lapang, today publicly voiced his support for the Covid-19 vaccination drive and urged the people of Ri-Bhoi and state as a whole to come forward to get the jab.
The octogenarian veteran of Meghalaya politics briefed the media here and expressed deep concern at the toll that the coronavirus has taken on the citizens of the state.
It is thus the duty of the people to cooperate with the government and take preventive measures, including getting vaccinated, he said.
In the past many people were plagued by diphtheria, polio, leprosy, measles and other diseases, which were only brought under control or even eradicated thanks to health experts who invented vaccines to fight these diseases, Lapang added.
The former CM appealed to the public not to be taken in by rumours but rather put their trust in doctors and scientists.
